Therapy for Life Transitions in NYC

For the in-between, when the old way no longer fits and the new one isn’t clear yet.

Door opening from a dark room into bright light, therapy for life transitions in NYC

You left the job. Or got the promotion. Moved to New York, or away from it. A relationship ended, or a new one started to feel serious. Maybe you came out, became a parent, or watched a parent start to need you. Even the changes you wanted can leave you oddly unsteady, wondering who you are now.

That feeling is normal. Every change, good ones included, means letting go of something: a routine, a version of yourself, a sense of knowing what comes next. Being unsettled doesn’t mean you chose wrong.

The questions underneath

Whatever the change, people tend to arrive with some version of the same questions. Who am I now? What do I actually want? Can I trust myself to decide? Therapy gives you room to sit with those instead of rushing past them on autopilot.

We make space for mixed feelings, like excitement and grief showing up together. We get clearer on your values so decisions come from you rather than from pressure. And using Internal Family Systems (IFS), we listen to both the part of you that wants to hold on and the part that’s ready to move.

I’ve seen clients go from feeling lost in the middle of a big change to feeling more like themselves than before.

Sometimes the transition follows a powerful experience, including a psychedelic one, that changed how you see things. That’s welcome here too.

Short-term or longer

Some people want focused support through one specific change. Others find a transition opens into deeper work. Either is fine. I see clients in person in New York City and online across New York, New Jersey, Washington, DC and Connecticut, and you can start with a free 15-minute call.
